Winter Track 2011 - 2012
Our second Winter (or Indoor) Track & Field season will run
from December 2011 to February 2012. Our Club is open to 7 - 12 grade students
currently enrolled at North Warren Regional. Last year's
HS Girls and HS Boys teams placed 2nd at the UAGTCA Indoor
Championships held at Lehigh University. One team member,
Ryan Walker, went on to win the USA Track & Field National Youth
Indoor Shot Put Championship.
Winter Track
includes sprinting, running, hurdles, jumping and throwing
events. Sprinting/running events may include 55M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1600M and
3200M individual races (for comparison, a 3200M race is
approximately 2 miles) and relays (4 team members running, for
example, either
200M or 400M each). Hurdles are usually run at the shorter
distances. Jumping events can include Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump.
An example of a throwing event is
Shot Put.
We will offer
training and competition in the above events based on interest
and availability of equipment/facilities and coaching.
Some of these events
(particularly hurdles, jumps and throws) require special equipment
for training and competition. If you know of an individual
or business willing to donate track equipment to our program or if you
know of an existing program which may have used equipment they
would be willing to lend or donate, please
Contact Us.
Most practices
will be held at NWR after school. Coaches will communicate
the practice schedule to our Club members with as much advance
notice as possible. Please note we will be training
outdoors, weather permitting. Athletes should have
clothing appropriate for the conditions, such as running
sneakers, sweat pants/running tights, jacket/sweat shirt, hat
and gloves. Lighter layers which athletes can add or
remove are usually better than one heavy layer of clothing.
We will also be practicing inside the school. Obviously,
lighter clothing (shorts/t-shirts) will be more appropriate for
this type of training. Our Club Coaches will provide
athletes will additional information and guidance during the
season.
Our goal is to
attend four or more competitive meets. A combination of athlete
interest, ability and Coach recommendations will help determine
which events our athletes will compete in. Athletes will
usually compete in 1 to 3 events during a competition.
Meets are usually held at local colleges/arenas such as ESU,
Lehigh University and FDU. Please visit our
Meets page for more information.
We would like to
thank the NWR Board of Education, Administration and Athletic
Department for their support. In particular, the Club
thanks our Volunteer Advisors/Coaches.
We look forward to a fun and exciting second Winter Track season and to building the program
for future student/athletes to enjoy!
