North Warren Ends Season With Three Teams
Placing In The Top-5!
2/19/12 - Bethlehem, PA: Three of the NWR
Winter Track & Field teams placed in the top-5 at the season
ending UAGTCA Indoor Track Championships held at Lehigh
University on Sunday. Competing against top athletes in track
clubs from the Philadelphia and New York City areas, the HS
Girls team took 2nd place out of 18 teams, one point
out of 1st. The HS Boys and MS Boys teams both
placed 4th out of 18 teams; the best-ever finish by
the MS Boys. Event winners were Maddie Bronstein in the 3000
meters and Ryan Walker in the Shot Put. Also medaling were
Laura Straub and Charlie Eiserle (3000 meters); Jamie Stefani,
Nick Heinz and Kyle Walker (Shot Put); Maddie Bronstein (800
meters); Lisa Wilbur, Christine Hughes, Rachel Shucavage and Deb
Magalhaes (HS Girls Relay); and Charlie Eiserle, Dan Burns,
Derek Johnstone and Brian Wilbur (HS Boys relay). Congrats to
the 93 student-athletes who participated in the club on an
outstanding second season. Thank you to volunteer coaches (Ms.
Loughlin, Mr. Hashway, Ms. Douglas-Jarvis, Mr. Johnson and Mr.
Walker) who made it all possible. We’d also like to recognize
the Evangelical Free Church for the use of their gym. Finally,
thank you to the NWR students, staff, administration and
community for their continued support.
Duncan Medals At Group I Championships
2/18/12 - Toms River, NJ: Freshman Regina
Duncan followed up her 3rd place Sectional performance by
bringing home North Warren's second Winter Track State
Championship medal taking 6th place at the NJSIAA Winter Track
Group I Championships in Toms River. Regina will now
compete in the Meet of Champions on 2/25.
North Warren Brings Home First-Ever NJSIAA
Medal!
2/8/12 - Toms River, NJ: For the first
time in school history, a Track & Field team from North Warren
participated in the Group I, North I NJSIAA State Sectional
Winter Track & Field Championships. On February 8, the team
traveled to the Bennett Athletic Complex in Toms River, NJ to
compete. Freshman Regina Duncan brought home North Warren’s
first-ever track medal by taking 3rd place in the
3200 meter (2 mile) event with a school record time of 11:53.
Fellow teammates Maddie Bronstein (1600M, 3200M), Laura Straub
(1600M), Dan Burns (800M) and Charlie Eiserlie (3200M) all had
top-10 finishes while setting school/personal best marks. In
the Shot Put event, Ryan Walker won his flight and finished as
the top Freshman in the Section. Ryan (55M), along with Nick
Gioino (55M), Brian Wilbur (400M), Conner Stephens (400M), Lisa
Wilbur (800M) and Derek Johnstone (1600M) also set personal
and/or school records in their events. Emily Riley, one of only
a few Freshman girls to compete at the meet, just missed a
personal record in the competitive 55M race.
The results are particularly impressive when you consider the
North Warren contingent is part of a privately funded Club team
competing against twenty-one other varsity level programs. The
22-team Group I, North I Section is the largest of the sixteen
State Sectional meets. In only its second season of existence,
the Club has already produced a USA Track & Field National Youth
Shot Put Champion and now a NJSIAA State Sectional medalist.
Coach Randy Walker was filled with pride. “As of last December,
there was no track program at North Warren. To come this far in
just over a year far exceeds any expectations we had. For our
athletes to compete at the Winter Track Sectional Championships
for the first time and perform like this is a credit to their
hard work, dedication and love of the sport. I wish we would
have been able to bring more athletes, but our Club status
limited us to a select group.”
Coach Walker went on to say, “Although tonight’s performance was
outstanding, the thing I’m most excited about is going from 34
athletes last season to over 90 this season. We have over 50
High School and 40 Middle School students in the Club. Most of
these athletes, who were either working out on their own or not
participating in an athletic event, now have a winter activity
available to them. I’d like to thank coaches Jessica Loughlin,
Ryan Hashway, Charles Johnson, Patty Douglas-Jarvis and Carrie
Murphy for volunteering their time and experience over the past
two seasons making this all possible. I’d also like to thank
our parents, community, staff and administration for their
support.”
Regina’s finish has qualified her for the Group I
State Championships to be held on February 18 in Toms River.
Jersey City Meet Results
2/5/12 - Jersey City, NJ: The North Warren
HS and MS teams were able to sneak in a few races before the
Super Bowl on Sunday at the Jersey City Armory.
Unfortunately, with over 800 other athletes trying to do the
same, the team had to leave before all their events were
contested. Coach Walker thanked his team for their
patience and willingness to change events so all teammates were
able to participate in at least one event.
Some notable
performances included the HS and MS Girls Sprint Medley teams
setting new school records (HS - Emily Riley, Laura Straub, Lisa
Wilbur, Regina Duncan; MS - Cathy Balla, Danielle Pergola,
Caileigh Holland, Jenny Hovell). Nick Heinz took first in
the Youth Shot Put category. The Boys HS Sprint Medley
teams took first and second place. Caileigh Holland set
the MS Girls 400M record.
The final meet of
the seaon will take place on 2/19 at Lehigh University.
NWR Shines At ESU Meet on 1/6/12
1/6/12 - East Stroudsburg, PA: The North Warren
HS and MS teams had a successful track meet on Friday 1/6 at ESU.
Results for this meet are now posted under
Meet Results. Due to the nature of the meet (manual
timing and scoring) it was difficult to get the exact placement
or team scores for our athletes. This was also the first
meet where we had the opportunity to compete against athletes
from other local schools such as Newton, Sussex Tech,
Phillipsburg, Pope John, Stroudsburg and Blair.
Some notable
performances included Regina Duncan taking 5th place in the HS
Girls 3200M race. Maddie Bronstein (800M), Laura Straub
(400M), Regina (3200M), Brian Wilbur (400M), Dan Burns (800M),
Charlie Eiserle (1600M) and Derek Johnstone (3200M) set NWR HS
records.
Record breaking MS
performances were put in by Alexa Korinis (55M), Gabriella
Lorusso (200M), Caileigh Holland (400M) and Aidan Solano
(3200M).

HS Boys 2nd out of 13, HS Girls 3rd out of 12,
Youth Girls 4th out of 19 and Youth Boys 5th out of

First place awards went to Regina Duncan (Youth
1600M) and Ryan Walker (Youth Shot Put). Maddie Bronstein
placed 2nd in the HS Girls 1600M. Overall the Club had 21

Many of the current NWR Indoor Track records were
broken at the meet. Record setting performances were put
in by: Christine Hughes (HS Girls 400M), Laura Straub (HS Girls
800M), Maddie Bronstein (HS Girls 1600M), Derek Johnstone (HS Boys 1600M),
Aidan Solano (MS/Youth Boys 800M & 1600M), Ryan Walker (MS/Youth
Shot Put), Jamie Stefani (MS/Youth Girls Shot Put), Jenny Hovell
(MS/Youth 55M & 400M) and Regina Duncan (MS/Youth 800M & 1600M).
All three relay teams also set new marks: HS Boys
- Nicholas Gioino, Brian Wilbur, Ryan Stiefel, Kevin McElroy;
MS/Youth Girls - Gabriella Lorusso, Emily Riley, Caileigh Holland, Madison
Stiefel and MS/Youth Boys - Jacob Burdge, Nicholas Heinz, Kyle
Froisland and Ryan Walker.
Coach Walker was very proud of the team.
"Thirty-four of our athletes had never been on a track before.
They did an outstanding job for their first competition and we
hope to build on this momentum for the rest of the season."
The Club's next meet will be 1/6/12 at ESU.
Patty Douglas-Jarvis Joins Coaching Staff
12/7/11 - Blairstown, NJ: North Warren Track
& Field team is excited to have NWR Math Teacher Patty
Douglas-Jarvis join our coaching staff. Ms. Douglas-Jarvis
will be assisting us with Shot Put training. Patty threw

forward to working with Coach Douglas-Jarvis this season.
NWR Track &
Field Club Back For 2nd Season
12/2/11 - Blairstown, NJ: The North Warren Track
& Field Club kicked off its 2nd season today. The team
has grown from 34 members last year to over 90 this year.
Coach Randy Walker was pleasantly surprised by the huge turnout.
"I was hoping for around 60 athletes this year so I was
extremely excited when we had 80 students show up for our
sign-up meeting in November. 95% of those students joined
the team along with about 20 other athletes. We have 40
Middle School students and over 50 High School students on our
roster!"
The team's first meet will take place in Toms
River at the USA Track & Field Developmental Meet. The
club will train and compete in sprints, runs, shot put, hurdles
and possibly jumps this year.
NWR's Walker Wins National Championship!
3/13/11 - Chicago, IL: North Warren Track

Track & Field (USATF) National Youth Indoor Track Championships.
Ryan won the Youth (13-14 year old) Shot Put event
throwing the 8.8 pound shot a personal best 11.76 meters (38
feet). Ryan also medaled in the 400 meter dash.
Ryan outran competitors from Colorado, Michigan and Wisconsin to
place 6th in the event.
Coach Randy Walker commented, "To go from no team
in December to having a National Champion .... Wow! In
January when we started practice, I was just worried about
getting us shot puts and a place to throw and run. I'm
really at a loss for words".
Ryan is also a member of the Fredon, NJ-based
USATF Polar Bears Running Club. Along with NWR Coaches
Jessica Loughlin, Charles Johnson and Carie Murphy, Ryan credits
Bear's Coaches Bruce Wask, Larry Lawson and Dean Giering with
his success. "I'm lucky to have a great set of coaches
with so much experience."
Ryan's brother Kyle, a 6th grade student at
Blairstown Elementary School took home a bronze medal in the
11-12 year old Shot Put event.
